Mental Health First Aid (non-accredited)

Mental Health First Aid, Launceston.

Introduction:

As an adult, it is important to know how to support someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. That's where Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) comes in. Just like physical first aid, MHFA is given until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves.

The National First Aid Training Institute has commenced delivering Mental Health First Aid workshops to the public in Launceston. Our instructors are accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid workshop is specifically designed for adults (18 years and over) to provide initial support to other adults who may be developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. In this workshop, you will learn about:
  • The signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems
  • How to provide initial help
  • Where and how to get professional help
  • What sort of help has been shown by research to be effective; and
  • How to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
This workshop covers:
  • Developing mental health problems such as depression
  • Anxiety problems; and
  • Psychosis.
It also covers mental health crisis situations such as:
  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Effects of drug or alcohol use
  • Psychotic states; and
  • Aggressive behaviour.

The cost for a public MHFA workshop is $295 per individual. If you have a group that needs training, you can contact us on 1800 851 859 or email admin@nfti.edu.au for further details.

Investing in MHFA training can equip you with the skills and knowledge to support those around you who may be going through a difficult time. It's a small step that can make a big difference.

Workshop duration is a 2 Day workshop.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a non-accredited workshop. On successful completion of this workshop, you will be issued a Certificate of Attendance.
